Atlanta Voices began in 2023 as the Challenge the Stats Community Choir. Director and founder Verena Lucía Anders created an ad hoc choir whose first opportunity was to perform for a Juneteenth Concert in collaboration with ASO’s Talent and Development Program as well as the Atlanta Opera. Challenge the Stats, a local non-profit supporting Black and LatinX classical musicians, continued to invite and support the choir for annual concerts.

By 2025 the ensemble had nearly doubled in membership and had gained a local reputation as a group presenting stirring and high-quality performances of music by composers of color. Verena and the outstanding team of singers decided to continue the choir as an independent group, Atlanta Voices. The music and socially relevant subject matter became the nucleus of this family of singers.

Atlanta Voices is now proudly an independent ensemble and 5013c non-profit. The ensemble  plans to continue their work performing valuable repertoire by under-recognized composers, inspire social change in classical music, and build bridges in our communities.
